Take an #InsulationVacation, Part 7: Massachusetts

July 21, 2017

The Capitol Machine International Insulation Vacation moves on from Texas to Massachusetts, a whopping 1969 miles journey! Who planned this itinerary? Why can’t we teleport? This is a 29 hour drive!

A number of things and ideas that Americans enjoy were created in Massachusetts. Boston Common became the first public park in the country back in 1634. Not only was the first basketball game played in Massachusetts, but the game of volleyball was invented here in 1895. Massachusetts even boasts the first zip code: 01001 for the town of Agawam.

We’ve talked about using newspaper as insulation in the past, and it’s not a great idea. But in Rockport, there is a house constructed completely of newspaper. The thinking behind the construction of this building was that newspaper would be a great insulating material. Layer upon layer of newsprint covered with coats of varnish make up the bulk of the home. Built in 1922, this house has been standing for almost one hundred years. The caretaker admits, though, that rain and snow both have a tendency to come through the walls.

Massachusetts has warm summers, with the temperature rarely going over a pleasant eighty degrees. Winters can be pretty mean, though, with average yearly snowfall ranging from 19 to 79 inches. Situated near the top of the Eastern Seaboard, Massachusetts resides in Zone 5. That means recommended R-values from R49 to R60 for attics and R25 to R30 for floors.

Whether you’re part of the first insulation installation company in Massachusetts or the newest, you owe it to yourself to check out the incredible line of insulation machines and removal vacs. We’ve got machines of every size and style to meet your business needs. It’s like the old saying goes: “People in paper houses shouldn’t blow fill...or should they?”
